Merit Scholarships and Incentive Programs
Academic Scholarships
St. Jean’s is pleased to offer a number of scholarships to incentivize and reward our students. In order to be considered for a merit-based academic scholarship, eighth grade students will need to complete an application, provide supporting documents (listed on the application), and submit their TACHS scores. Intellectually gifted students will be considered for full or partial tuition scholarships. Please read more about the scholarships below.
Information will be emailed to applicants’ families in December 2023. The deadline to apply is January 5th, 2024.
St. Anne Scholars
The St. Anne Scholarship is an academic, merit-based scholarship to cover the entire four-year tuition of an exceptional Jeanite, provided she remains in good academic and behavioral standing. Students selected as St. Anne Scholars will be ambassadors for the high school to the greater St. Jean Baptiste parish community attending occasional special Masses and events throughout the year.

Awarded to a student or students from Sacred Heart elementary school in the Bronx.
Charles L. Massey Scholarship, established by Mary Ann Massey
Helen Moore McCormick Scholarship, established by Jeanne M. Grubert, Arthur C. Grubert, Christine Grubert, and Luke M. Pototschnik
Sr. Catherine O’Shea Scholarship, established by the O’Shea-Hatchigian family.
Awarded to a student who embodies the ideals of hard work dedication, self-improvement, leadership, and a deep appreciation for reading and literature.
Mary Lou Powderly Science Scholarship, established by the P.J. Callahan Foundation, Inc. and Marlene Mouttet ’84.
Awarded annually to a senior who has demonstrated a capacity and affinity for the sciences through her scores in class as well as the independent pursuit of her passion outside the classroom.
The Roesch Scholarship, established by the Estates of Gloria Roesch Sullivan ’38 & Eugene Sullivan
Elizabeth M. Coffey Scanlon ’68 Memorial Scholarship, established by Kevin Scanlon and Sean Scanlon

Awarded to a student with demonstrated financial need with a 3.1 or higher grade point average. Preference will be given to a student from a single-parent household.

Art Incentive Scholarship
The $2,500 Art Incentive Award is awarded based on the submission of 3-5 original works. The portfolio should include a variety of media (materials) and approaches and can include teacher assigned projects and/or work that the student has completed independently. Work can be from observation, imagination, and memory and may include paintings, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, etc.
One of the 3-5 pieces must be an observational drawing. Examples of observational work include landscape, still-life, self-portrait, figure drawings, and interior spaces. Observational work is defined as drawing or painting from life. Examples would include
sketching a bowl of fruit (still life), drawing from a model (figurative), or drawing a street scene (landscape). The image is not taken from either a photograph or the artist's imagination but from real-life observation.
After portfolios are submitted, students will be invited to meet with art teacher Rebecca Buchanan and asked to complete a drawing of a still life from observation in a group setting with other candidates.
This award is renewable.
SJB Sponsorships
Students with demonstrated financial need entering their sophomore year at SJB who have a consistent record of academic success and school service may be considered for limited tuition assistance sponsorships if they become available. More information is shared as the Jeanites enter sophomore year.
This application is different from an application for limited need-based Tuition assistance.
Additional opportunities may be offered to excelling students if funds become available.

Student Sponsor Partners
A nonprofit, tax exempt organization which aids public and catholic school students in earning their high school diploma from a private school. SSP offers a combination of financial and personal support. Applications are available at www.sspnyc.org. Contact your guidance counselor for additional information.

Be A Student’s Friend & Inner City Scholarship
8th graders who currently attend a Catholic elementary school and who receive the “Be a Student’s Friend Scholarship” or Children’s Scholarship Fund may continue to receive this scholarship at St. Jean’s by renewing the application through TADS at the appropriate time of 8th Grade through the guidance of Inner City Scholarship.
Inner-City Scholarship Fund offers a variety of tuition assistance to help offset the cost of Catholic school tuition. Scholarship awards are needs based and must be renewed each year of high school. For further information, please visit their website: www.innercityscholarshipfund.org
