SJB rocks out with Civic Spirit/ Student Leadership assembly

St Jean Baptiste opened up it's first full week of school with a formal assembly program that was one part "girl power" celebration, one part opening of school and one part memorial for 9/11 . The program was embedded in St Jeans participation in the Civic Spirit initiative, which provides curricular engagement for a set of schools in NYC so that students can prioritize participation in government.

With the Jeanites on their feet and dancing the band rocked out to: Diana Ross and the Supremes, Chaka Khan, Katy Perry and beyond. Next up was a key note by NYPD Dept Commissioner Robert Ganley. Commissioner Ganley spoke eloquently about the importance of marking 9/11, the significance of female empowerment in leadership and also reiterated our mantra "...to much is given, much is expected"

The program was rounded out with SJB's newest tradition the leadership sweater ceremony. The senior admin selected 25 student leaders - academic , sports, leadership and service. Providing each one, in a formal ceremony with a monogrammed name on each. In addition each one of the members of the congregation of the sisters of Notre Dame were given a sweater as well. This was the first of a menu of "aspiration leadership" markers that St Jeans will be throughout each academic year.
